5 Habits for A Healthier Lifestyle: Part #2

Looking for ways to create a healthier lifestyle for yourself?

#1: DROP THE SUGAR

Sugar seems to be an ingredient in almost everything today.

Given it’s in candy bars and trail mixes, syrups, sauces, sodas, and even bread, it can be tough to avoid. The simple truth is, sugar is bad for you.

It causes weight gain, can cause acne, and has also been known to increase the risk of:

  • Cancer
  • Heart disease
  • Diabetes
  • and even depression.

It also can cause cavities, and speed cognitive decline and skin aging.

The list goes on, but the answer is clear: to live a healthier lifestyle, you should cut out sugar.

Eat as green and natural as possible avoiding foods made in a lab. Try replacing soda with water and kombucha.

Replace a candy bar with a carrot stick. It won’t be easy at first, but your body will learn to crave foods that make it feel good if you stick with a healthier, sugar-free diet for long enough.

#2: QUIT SMOKING

Fresh air is healthy for your body. It has been known to clean lungs, increase heart rate and blood pressure, and even encourage digestion.

Be sure to carve out time in your day to be outside. Go for a walk during your lunch break, or run before or after your shift. Sit on the porch and read a book, or walk the dog. Get some fresh air!

#5: PUT THE PHONE DOWN

Social media, email, video chats, video games, movies, and more are all calling for our attention now more than ever before.

While there is nothing inherently wrong with liking your friend’s post or replying to an email, too much screen time can negatively impact your health, both mentally and physically.

Setting your phone down and closing the laptop gives you space to do healthy activities like going outside, spending time with friends, cooking a healthy meal, reading a book, or even spending quiet time by yourself.

Consider setting a “logging off” time and stick to it! You’ll feel more disciplined and have a healthier life because of it.
