5 Habits for A Healthier Lifestyle: Part #2

Looking for ways to create a healthier lifestyle for yourself?

There are several simple steps you can take to increase health, most of which have to do with the choices you make like what you put in your body, how much sleep you get, and even who you spend your time with.

If you want a healthier life, follow these FIVE HEALTHY HABITS (Part Two) below.

Sugar seems to be an ingredient in almost everything today.

Given it’s in candy bars and trail mixes, syrups, sauces, sodas, and even bread, it can be tough to avoid. The simple truth is, sugar is bad for you.

It causes weight gain, can cause acne, and has also been known to increase the risk of:

  • Cancer
  • Heart disease
  • Diabetes
  • and even depression.

It also can cause cavities, and speed cognitive decline and skin aging.

The list goes on, but the answer is clear: to live a healthier lifestyle, you should cut out sugar.

Eat as green and natural as possible avoiding foods made in a lab. Try replacing soda with water and kombucha.

Replace a candy bar with a carrot stick. It won’t be easy at first, but your body will learn to crave foods that make it feel good if you stick with a healthier, sugar-free diet for long enough.

Smoking can cause damage to almost every organ in your body.

Smoking can increase the possibility of heart problems including coronary heart disease, strokes, heart attacks, and more. Smoking weakens the immune system and can cause autoimmune diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus, Crohn’s disease, and more.

This nasty habit can also seriously affect the lungs as it damages air sacs and airways (called alveoli), which causes disease and difficulty in breathing. Put out the cigarette!

They say laughter is the best medicine. While it doesn’t cure everything, it certainly has positive affects on the body.

Laughing is not only good for you mentally, but also has direct physical benefits.

It increases circulation, oxygen intake, quickly increases and decreases heart rate, and releases neuropeptides. These physical responses can improve your immune system, release tension, relieve stress, relax your muscles, and positively affect your mood.

Long hours sitting at a desk or in a vehicle can often lead to bad posture causing back pain. BackShield® is a “high quality, innovative and comfortable back support product that improves posture and relieves back pain.” Visit www.backshield.com and get yours now!

Go outside!

Fresh air is healthy for your body. It has been known to clean lungs, increase heart rate and blood pressure, and even encourage digestion.

Be sure to carve out time in your day to be outside. Go for a walk during your lunch break, or run before or after your shift. Sit on the porch and read a book, or walk the dog. Get some fresh air!

Cell phone with social media apps
The internet is everywhere.

Social media, email, video chats, video games, movies, and more are all calling for our attention now more than ever before.

While there is nothing inherently wrong with liking your friend’s post or replying to an email, too much screen time can negatively impact your health, both mentally and physically.

Setting your phone down and closing the laptop gives you space to do healthy activities like going outside, spending time with friends, cooking a healthy meal, reading a book, or even spending quiet time by yourself.

Consider setting a “logging off” time and stick to it! You’ll feel more disciplined and have a healthier life because of it.
